Insurance for Arizona Contractors
Contractors usually need insurance on a deadline: a GC wants a certificate, the ROC wants proof, a job starts Monday. We work at that speed, and we read the contract requirements so the certificate actually matches what was asked.
From handymen to specialty trades to GCs, we quote contractor insurance across multiple carriers, including classes that standard markets dodge.
Common risks
Where contractor claims actually come from:
- Property damage during work: the cut pipe, the cracked slab, the stained ceiling below
- Injuries to third parties at or near job sites
- Completed operations claims that surface months or years after the job
- Employee injuries, the most expensive everyday risk in the trades
- Tool and equipment theft from trucks and sites
- Uninsured subcontractors landing on your audit or your claim
Recommended coverage
A typical Arizona contractor program includes:
General liability
required by GCs, landlords, and most contracts before you can start
Workers compensation
required with employees; often required of solo subs too
Commercial auto
for work trucks and trailers
Inland marine / equipment
for tools and machines that move between sites
Excess liability
when contracts require $2 million or more
What landlords, clients, and contracts commonly require
- GC subcontract agreements commonly require GL with additional insured and waiver of subrogation endorsements
- Arizona ROC licensing requires bonds, and some commercial jobs require bid and performance bonds
- Commercial job sites typically require certificates before badging anyone in
Common questions
How fast can I get a certificate of insurance?
If you have an active policy with us, usually same day. If you need a new policy, many contractor classes can be quoted and bound quickly. Send us the contract's insurance section and we will tell you exactly what it requires.
Does my GL cover faulty workmanship?
GL covers damage your work causes to other property, not the cost of redoing the work itself. If your tile job fails, GL will not pay to re-lay tile, but it may cover the water damage the failure caused. Knowing where that line sits keeps expectations realistic.
I'm a solo operator. Do I need workers comp?
Arizona does not require it without employees, but many GCs require every sub to carry it or sign a valid waiver. If GC work is part of your pipeline, we should talk through it before it costs you a job.
