Insurance for Mobile Businesses
A mobile business blends exposures that normally live in separate policies: a commercial vehicle, business equipment, customer-facing operations, and often food or personal services, all moving between locations daily.
BrokerPro builds packages for food trucks, mobile detailers, groomers, mobile mechanics, and other businesses on wheels, with the certificates events and commissaries require.
Common risks
Mobile operations face:
- Vehicle accidents while driving between stops
- Customer injuries at the service window or work area
- Equipment damage and theft, including generators and trailers
- Fire risk from cooking and fuel systems
- Foodborne illness claims for food operations
- Event and venue requirements that change week to week
Recommended coverage
A mobile business package usually includes:
Commercial auto
the truck or van is the business; personal auto will not cover it
General liability
customer injuries and property damage, required by events and venues
Equipment / inland marine
cooking equipment, tools, generators, and trailers
Product liability
for food and goods sold
Workers compensation
once you have staff
What landlords, clients, and contracts commonly require
- Events, farmers markets, and festivals require GL certificates with additional insured status, often per event
- Commissary kitchens require proof of liability
- Cities may require insurance for vending permits
Common questions
I get asked for a new certificate at every event. Is that normal?
Yes. Most events want their own additional insured certificate. Once your policy is set up with us, these are quick to issue, and we can often turn same-day requests around.
Does my food truck need commercial auto even when it's parked?
The auto policy covers the vehicle including while parked; the operations and cooking exposures need GL and equipment coverage. The fire risk from cooking systems is a property exposure, not an auto one. The package matters more than any single policy.
I tow a trailer instead of driving a truck. What changes?
The tow vehicle needs proper coverage (commercial auto if it is a work vehicle), the trailer needs physical damage coverage, and liability while the trailer is detached and operating typically falls to your GL. We see this setup constantly and structure it accordingly.
